Frankfurt (Germany), 14 Oct. (LaPresse) – Germany will also have to consider reviewing its aid to Ukraine should the trial concerning the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines establish the Ukrainian state’s responsibility. This was stated by Markus Frohnmaier, the AfD parliamentary group’s spokesperson on foreign policy, in an interview with Welt TV, following the opening of the proceedings in Hamburg. “I naturally expect that, once these proceedings are concluded, the federal government will finally draw the necessary conclusions,” said Frohnmaier. According to the AfD representative, the issues to be examined should also include Germany’s future support for Kyiv, “to the extent of considering how much further assistance can be provided to Ukraine in the future”. Frohnmaier clarified that his party has always spoken out in favour of humanitarian aid. The AfD politician also criticised Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accusing him of linking his continued tenure in government to the fate of Ukraine. “As German Chancellor, one should not make one’s actions dependent on a foreign country,” he said, calling on the CDU to apply the same criteria in its relations with Ukraine, Russia and other states. “We deserve a policy designed for German citizens, not for Kyiv,” he concluded.”
