Rome, 14 Oct. (LaPresse) – US sanctions against the International Criminal Court are “illegitimate, harmful and cruel; it is no coincidence – knowing how much Trump wants the Nobel Prize, this is retaliation”. This was stated by Judge Navi Pillay, winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in an interview with La Repubblica. During the interview, speaking about the accusation of genocide in Gaza levelled against Israel by the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry – which she chaired – the Nobel laureate said she had been “personally shocked by the bombing of the fertility clinic in Gaza in late 2023”. “It was deliberately targeted. The rocket hit the section where the embryos were kept, not the hospital. Afterwards, the soldiers didn’t even go in to check whether there were any Hamas fighters or weapons there. It reminded me of Rwanda,” she said, “where Hutu killers slit the bellies of pregnant Tutsi women because they didn’t want any more Tutsis to be born. This comes very close to the annihilation of a group. In this case, the Palestinians.”
