Rome, 20 Oct. (LaPresse) – The death toll in Spain from Storm Adam has risen to five. One person died in Catalonia, one in Andalusia and three in the Valencian Community, according to Spanish media reports. The storm hit Valencia and Alicante particularly hard, bringing ‘extraordinary’ rainfall with accumulations exceeding 700 litres per square metre. The situation is now beginning to improve and, in most of the affected municipalities, the orders requiring residents to stay in their homes have been lifted. Today, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit the affected areas in the Valencian Community. The Socialist leader described the situation as “very complicated” and urged the public to exercise “the utmost caution”. Storm Adam struck Spain two years on from the tragic floods that claimed a total of 241 lives.
