Rome, 26 Oct. (LaPresse) – The Brazilian stock exchange triggered the circuit breaker today after Lula’s victory over Flavio Bolsonaro in the second round of the presidential election led to heavy losses across Brazilian assets. This is the first time the mechanism has been triggered since March 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic. Folha de S.Paulo reports the news, explaining that the circuit breaker is a mechanism that temporarily halts trading on the stock exchange during periods of sharp falls. During the suspension, the buying and selling of shares, derivatives and private debt securities is halted to allow the market to stabilise.
