Milan, Oct. 27 (LaPresse) – Israel’s Central Elections Committee has rejected a request by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and its allied parties to extend voting hours beyond 10 p.m. (9 p.m. in Italy). After discussing the request, the committee stated that “it was determined that, at this stage, there are no grounds justifying an extension of voting hours.” The Times of Israel reports this. “The high voter turnout nationwide, recorded across all population groups, demonstrates citizens’ strong engagement in the democratic process and, under these circumstances, an extension of voting hours was not deemed necessary,” the statement said. The committee added that voting in the Jewish settlement of Hebron, in the West Bank, would be postponed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. due to a power outage that occurred today.
