Rome, 30 Oct. (LaPresse) – According to sources cited by The Times of Israel, the group of parties opposed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reached an agreement to remove the current Speaker of the Knesset shortly after the new parliament is sworn in, which is due to take place next month. The 120 members of the next Knesset will be sworn in on 10 November, regardless of the ongoing negotiations to form the next governing coalition. The so-called ‘block for change’ – comprising Yashar, B’Yachad, the Democrats and Yisrael Beytenu – together with the Arab-led parties United List and Ra’am – controls a majority of seats in the Knesset and will therefore be able to remove Amir Ohana, the Likud-backed Speaker of the Knesset, from office. Some reports suggest that the opposition parties are considering the possibility of appointing former Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
