Frankfurt (Germany), 31 Oct. (LaPresse) – Polish President Karol Nawrocki has denounced a “threat to the country’s internal security” in relation to the crisis at the Constitutional Court, accusing those responsible for the latest developments of violating the constitutional order and forcibly occupying a state body. “Last night saw a violation of the constitutional order of the Republic of Poland and the forcible occupation of a constitutional state body,” reads Nawrocki’s statement, released during a demonstration outside the Court and read out by the head of the presidential chancellery, Pawel Szefernaker, as reported by Pap. The President called for the restoration of the rule of law and the withdrawal of security forces from the Constitutional Court’s premises. He also reiterated that he had consulted the First President of the Supreme Court, Zbigniew Kapinski, who “does not recognise as legitimate the actions carried out by those who have usurped power” within the Constitutional Court. The situation deteriorated further following the publication on the Court’s website of a statement announcing the suspension of President Bogdan Swieczkowski and his deputy Bartlomiej Sochanski from their respective duties. However, a contradictory version was published on page X of the Constitutional Court’s website: the site had reportedly been taken over and Swieczkowski was continuing to perform his duties.
