Tel Aviv (Israel), 1 Nov. (LaPresse/AP) – Israeli police have released two of the three suspects in a case of alleged corruption relating to last week’s elections. A judge reviewed and rejected the police’s requests for further restrictions to be imposed on the three suspects. The police subsequently stated that one suspect had been released subject to certain unspecified ‘conditions’, whilst another had been ordered to remain under house arrest for eight days. The detention of the third suspect was extended by two days. Mansour Abbas, leader of the Arab Ra’am party, which won eight seats in the Knesset, condemned the arrests, describing them as undemocratic and “an attempt to influence the election results”.
