Brussels, Nov. 6 (LaPresse) – “A new and intensive diplomatic effort is underway to end Russia’s war. Europe continues to support every initiative aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace”. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said this at a press conference in Warsaw alongside Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. “Today, we discussed with the ministers how we can contribute to this goal. Despite diplomatic efforts, the reality on the ground remains dramatic. In Ukraine alone, at least 45 civilians have been killed by Russian airstrikes this week”. “There is no sign of imminent peace”, she added. “On the contrary”, she stressed, “Ukraine is preparing for another extremely difficult winter. Russia will once again target Ukrainian power plants, which are essential for ensuring lighting, heating in homes and water supplies. Moscow is trying to break Ukraine through freezing temperatures, forcing it to surrender. But we will not allow that to happen. To strengthen Ukraine’s resilience, this week the EU disbursed a further 4.36 billion euros under our financial support programme. However, it is clear that much more is needed.”
