Rome, Oct 6 (LaPresse) – “Eighty years after the founding of the United Nations, the universal aspiration for peace must once again become an urgent and shared objective of the entire international community. It is a collective responsibility from which we cannot evade.” This is stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent on the occasion of the XII Italy–Latin America and Caribbean Conference.
“The current geopolitical scenario,” explains the Head of State, “presents increasingly complex challenges: changes in global trade relations and climate change; threats to democracy, multilateralism, and the rule-based international system, but above all, a worrying tendency to normalize the use of force as a plausible means of resolving disputes between States. We observe its tragic manifestation in the numerous armed conflicts afflicting peoples and regions close to us, which we thought we had long since relegated to the corners of our collective memory.”
