Calabria, PD: ‘Clear result and thanks to Tridico, the path remains a broad alliance’

Rome, 6 October (LaPresse) – “The first piece of data that cannot fail to cause concern with regard to the Calabrian vote is the abstention rate, which now structurally marks a warning level for the stability of democracy that must raise questions for everyone. However, the result of the elections in Calabria is very clear, and we wish Occhiuto all the best in his work. We extend our sincere thanks to Pasquale Tridico for his commitment and generosity in conducting this election campaign, which took place in the middle of summer in what we knew would be a difficult and uphill battle against the outgoing president, who was also running for re-election in a lightning-fast campaign. As for the result of the PD, which presented two lists, that of the PD and that of the Democrats and Progressives, the result of the two lists is around 20%, an increase compared to the last regional elections’. This was stated in a note by Igor Taruffi, head of organisation in the national secretariat of the PD. ‘Although, of course, in the face of defeat, this figure is not enough. Just as it is not enough for the centre-left to have gone from 27% in the last regional elections to 41% today. However, we remain committed to consolidating the centre-left alliance, confident that victories will come in the next elections. The unity of the centre-left is and remains an indispensable condition for winning and governing. This is demonstrated by the fact that in the last regional elections, the only regions that changed colour were Sardinia and Umbria, which were recaptured by the centre-left,” he added.
