Rome, Oct. 9 (LaPresse) – “We welcome the truce agreement with relief. The path to peace will still be long, but today marks a decisive step — with a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages still held by Hamas, and the withdrawal of the Israeli army — for which the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey must be acknowledged. Europe must regain a role in rebuilding Gaza and in providing full support to the suffering Palestinian population, starting with ensuring full access to all necessary aid. Now it is essential that everyone respects the agreement and that further steps are taken to guarantee a political solution based on two peoples and two States, with the recognition of the State of Palestine and the end of the illegal occupation in the West Bank — the only path toward a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
That’s what Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein said.
