Tennis: ATP-PIF agreement, Masters 1000 in Saudi Arabia from 2028

Milan, 23 October (LaPresse) – From 2028, there will be a tenth Masters 1000 tournament on the calendar, to be held in Saudi Arabia. This was announced by the ATP and SURJ Sports Investment, a company owned by the PIF fund. The organisation of this new event reinforces the existing strategic partnership between the ATP and PIF, whose brand is associated with the rankings, collaboration on several key Tour events and the recent launch of the next-generation technology platform “ATP Tennis IQ Powered by PIF”. The agreement, according to the press release, also includes a national grassroots programme, developed in collaboration with the Saudi Tennis Federation, which ‘will promote inclusion, accessibility and talent development, inspiring the next generation of Saudi athletes and champions and creating solid pathways for participation. This is part of PIF’s broader ambition to grow the sport at all levels and promote the development of both men’s and women’s tennis,‘ reads a statement posted on the ATP website. ’This is a moment of great pride for us and the result of a journey built over many years. Saudi Arabia has demonstrated a genuine commitment to tennis – not only at the professional level, but also in the growth of the sport more broadly at all levels. The PIF’s ambition for tennis is clear, and we believe that fans and players will be excited about what is to come. Strengthening our flagship events is generating record growth and transformation across the Tour, and we are grateful to our partners at PIF and SURJ for contributing to this development and sharing this vision,” said Andrea Gaudenzi, ATP Chairman.
