United Kingdom, BBC apologises to Trump: ‘But there was no defamation’

London (United Kingdom), 14 Nov. (LaPresse) – The BBC has apologised to US President Donald Trump for a manipulated edit of his speech on 6 January 2021, but said it does not agree that there are grounds for a defamation lawsuit. The British broadcaster said that President Samir Shah had sent a personal letter to the White House explaining that he and the broadcasting group apologised for the editing of Trump’s speech before some of his supporters stormed the Capitol. The BBC added that there were no plans to rebroadcast the documentary, which had combined parts of the tycoon’s speech separated by almost an hour. Trump’s lawyer had sent the BBC a letter demanding an apology and threatening a billion-dollar lawsuit.
