Spain, poll: In Catalonia, far-right independence movement is growing

Madrid (Spain), Nov. 24 (LaPresse) – In Catalonia, the far-right independence party, Aliança Catalana, is showing growth in the polls. According to the barometer from the Centre d’Estudis d’Opinió (CEO), it is now almost neck-and-neck with Carles Puigdemont’s party, Junts. In fact, if the elections for the Catalan Parliament were held today, Sílvia Orriols’ Aliança Catalana would rise from 2 to 19-20 seats, matching Junts, which currently holds 35 seats. According to the survey, conducted between October 13 and November 11 with a sample of 2,000 respondents, the Socialist Party would again win the elections, with a slight trend toward demobilization (38-40 seats), while the left-wing independence movement, ERC, would come second with 22-23 seats. Vox would win 13-14 seats, more than the PP (12-13). The results of the CEO’s autumn barometer align with the Ipsos poll published by La Vanguardia in September, which had already predicted the rise of Aliança Catalana. Specifically, it gave Junts 13.3% of the vote and 21 seats, while Aliança Catalana received 11.9% and 19 seats.
