Spain: El País, fatigue fracture of the track may have caused the Adamuz accident

Madrid (Spain), 22 January. (LaPresse) – The Spanish newspaper El País reports that technicians working for the Commission of Inquiry into Railway Accidents are investigating the possibility that the accident in Adamuz was caused by fatigue failure of the outer rail, which buckled after denting the wheels of the first five carriages of the Iryo train. According to the newspaper, this hypothesis currently seems to prevail over others. The suspicion is that there may have been a defect in the rail that worsened until the track broke as the train passed.
