Frankfurt (Germany), 23 January (LaPresse) – ‘We are not exactly on the same page as the Canadian Prime Minister; we need to look at Plan B.’ This was stated by ECB President Christine Lagarde, speaking at the closing panel of the World Economic Forum in Davos, emphasising the need to explore alternatives and identify the weaknesses and dependencies of global economies. Lagarde explained that she does not share the view of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that ‘we are in the midst of a fracture, not a transition,’ emphasising instead how important it is to evaluate all possible solutions and critical points. “From an economic and business perspective, we are interdependent,” she added, highlighting the strength of the links between suppliers and buyers and the importance of studying every scenario to strengthen the resilience of economies. The ECB President also reiterated that, in economic analysis, ‘we need to identify weaknesses, pain points, dependencies and autonomy much more clearly,’ and that this approach is essential for developing effective contingency plans, including with the support of other European policymakers such as Ursula von der Leyen.
