Rome, Feb. 4 (LaPresse) – “Anarchists, antagonists, black blocs, and other far-right and far-left extremists are not new. What is new compared to the past is a government that does propaganda with police uniforms and exploits news events to push through a new security decree. They try to send further signals to a population that actually wants solutions. Do you know the reality? The government does not work on security,” says Giuseppe Conte, leader of the M5S, in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
Regarding the shield for officers, he added: “It’s a slogan law. Don’t make fun of Italians, don’t do propaganda on the backs of the police. As for preventive detention, it takes us back to the Reale Law of 1975, so repressive that it was abandoned after a while.”
Conte continued: “We have always condemned acts of violence, unconditionally. But I recommend that the government condemn violent demonstrations by far-right extremists with the same rigor, like the 2021 attack on the CGIL. As for social centers, I see that the government is not equally swift when it comes to evicting those inspired by neo-fascism.”
