Lega, Furgiuele will not follow Vannacci: ‘I remain a party member’

Rome, 6 February (LaPresse) – “In recent days, there have been numerous media reports about my alleged departure from the Lega. It is necessary to set the record straight once and for all. I joined the Lega twelve years ago, when there was nothing in southern Italy. In Calabria, the League was worth 0.1%, in Italy it was at 3.6%, led by the young federal secretary Matteo Salvini. Since then, I have never changed sides. Twelve years on the same side, battles, commitment, sacrifices and even results that no biased reconstruction could ever question’. This was stated in a long Facebook post by Lega MP Domenico Furgiuele, putting an end to insinuations that he might follow General Roberto Vannacci in his new political adventure. “I was there before many others, even those who today claim to be ‘loyal” exclusively on social media. My city, Lamezia Terme, has proven to be a stronghold of the League in southern Italy: over 10% in the municipal elections (with the party symbol), three elected municipal councillors, one councillor, and over 20% in the regional elections in a city of about 70,000 inhabitants. Numbers, not opinions. I am one of the founding fathers of the League in Calabria. I know what it means to found, build and hold together. It is a path I know well, because I have already done it and continue to do so with passion every day. I joined this party as a militant, I became a member of parliament, but I remain a militant in spirit and action, one who serves the party, even when not everything is simple, even when not everything is immediately understandable. Because the party comes first. I am Furgiuele! A man of the party. And I will continue to be so,’ concludes the post.
