Bad weather: Arera suspends bill payments in areas affected by Cyclone Harry

Milan, 10 February (LaPresse) – ARERA, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment, has announced that it has approved an emergency measure suspending the payment of bills and payment notices for electricity, gas, water and waste for six months for the populations of the regions of Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily, including the municipality of Niscemi, affected by the effects of Cyclone Harry starting on 18 January 2026. Arera announced this in a statement. Resolution 20/2026/R/COM, which follows the declaration of a state of emergency by the Council of Ministers on 26 January, concerns all utilities and supplies to households and businesses located in the municipalities damaged by the exceptional weather events, as identified by Order 1180 of the Head of the Civil Protection Department on 30 January 2026, Arera points out. The measures apply to all bills and payment notices issued or to be issued with a due date from 18 January 2026, including any costs for connection, activation, deactivation, transfer or takeover services or any additional fees that may be charged by waste sector operators. Similarly, disconnection procedures for non-payment, even if occurring before that date, will be suspended.
