Washington, 14 Feb. (LaPresse) – Federal immigration officials plan to spend 38.3 billion dollars to increase migrant center capacity to 92,600 beds. These details are contained in a document published Friday, as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement quietly purchases warehouses to convert into detention and processing centers. The Republican governor of New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte, posted the document online amid tensions over ICE’s plans to convert a warehouse in Merrimack into a 500-bed processing center. The document states that ICE plans 16 regional processing centers with a population between 1,000 and 1,500 detainees, whose average stay would be three to seven days. Another eight large-scale detention centers would be able to house between 7,000 and 10,000 detainees for an average of less than 60 days.
