Rome, 15 February (LaPresse) – ‘We are in a very complex phase of international relations, we are also in a particular phase of relations between Europe and the United States. I believe Merz makes a correct assessment when he says that Europe must take care of itself and that it must do more, for example on security, starting with the European pillar of NATO. I agree on this.’ In an interview reported by Corriere della Sera, Repubblica and two other newspapers, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reiterated what she said yesterday shortly before returning from Addis Ababa, starting with ‘I do not agree’ with Merz’s words against Maga culture. As for Thursday’s Board of Peace in Washington: “We have been invited as an observer country, which we believe is a good solution to the problem of war in the Middle East. As is well known, Italy cannot join this body due to constitutional incompatibility. In general, we are in favour; for us, the Middle East is a priority, as demonstrated by all the work Italy has done and is doing in that area”.
