Iran, Meloni updates Mattarella on developments

Rome, Mar. 1 (LaPresse) – Contacts by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with leaders of the Middle East region continued throughout the day, “starting with the phone conversations held with the King of Jordan and the Sultan of Oman, in addition to the numerous contacts already made yesterday with other authorities from Gulf nations,” according to a statement from Palazzo Chigi. Prime Minister Meloni “also held talks with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, in his capacity as holder of the rotating presidency of the European Union,” the statement added. The Prime Minister “then briefed the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, fully updating him on the developments and the contacts held. In parallel, constant coordination continues with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, regarding the situation of Italian nationals residing in and transiting through the region, who are once again urged to exercise the utmost caution and to follow the instructions issued by the Crisis Unit of the Foreign Ministry.”
