Madrid (Spain), 4 March (LaPresse) – ‘The Spanish government’s position can be summed up in four words: no to war.’ This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in an institutional declaration from the Moncloa Palace, calling for ‘the mistakes of the past not to be repeated’. “The world, Europe and Spain already went through this 23 years ago, when another US administration dragged us into a war in the Middle East, a war that in theory, according to what was said at the time, was aimed at eliminating Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, bringing democracy and ensuring global security, but which in reality had the opposite effect, triggering the greatest wave of insecurity our continent has experienced since the fall of the Berlin Wall,‘ said the Spanish leader, stressing that the war in Iraq ’has led to a dramatic increase in jihadist terrorism, a serious migration crisis in the eastern Mediterranean and a generalised increase in energy prices and the cost of living.”
