Urban planning investigation, Lega: "Confirms the existence of the 'Milan system'"

Milan, March 5 (LaPresse) – "We are shocked to learn of the house arrest for corruption and obstruction of justice of the former head of urban planning for the Municipality of Milan, as well as today’s searches by the Guardia di Finanza at Palazzo Marino. As always, we uphold the presumption of innocence until the third degree of judgment, but we are concerned about the direction the investigations into Milanese urban planning are taking. Mayor Sala has always tried to shift responsibility onto others, as if the rules were not set by those who have governed the city for the past 14 years.

From the beginning, as Lega, we have pointed out how the municipality's directives were being followed. Today’s events confirm that we were right and that the responsibility for the dramatic situation we are experiencing lies primarily with Milan’s left-wing leadership," stated the Lega group in the Milan City Council in a press release.

"This is yet another confirmation of the existence of a 'Milan system' shaped by the policies of the Pisapia and Sala administrations, which lacks transparency and highlights serious deficiencies in urban planning management. After the investigation into Boeri, the failures regarding the stadium project, and the Salva Milano law, which the Democratic Party refuses to vote on in Parliament, this is yet another wake-up call for our city.

Greater transparency is needed, as well as the immediate appointment of a commissioner to oversee urban planning, given the (hopefully not intentional) inability to reverse a decline that is now evident to all. We also call for an urgent extraordinary council meeting so that the Mayor can clearly explain to Milan’s citizens what is happening within municipal offices," concluded the Carroccio group at Palazzo Marino.
