Rome, 20 March (LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with his British counterpart Yvette Cooper, warned the United Kingdom that allowing the United States to use British military bases would be regarded as participation in an act of aggression. “The United States and the Israeli regime have attacked our country, contravening all international principles and rules,” Araghchi stated, according to a post on his Telegram channel. Tehran’s foreign minister criticised the “negative and biased approach of the United Kingdom and certain European countries towards this blatant aggression, which violates international law”. Araghchi, emphasising Iran’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, stated that Tehran “has respected the sovereignty of neighbouring countries and had no intention of attacking them, but unfortunately, US bases are located in these countries and we are being attacked from these bases”. ‘These actions are undoubtedly to be regarded as participation in an act of aggression and will be recorded in the history of relations between the two countries,’ he concluded.
