Iran: Thailand announces agreement to transit the Strait of Hormuz

Milan, 28 March (LaPresse) – Thailand has reached an agreement with Iran to allow Thai oil tankers to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on Saturday by the Prime Minister of the Southeast Asian country. Al Arabiya reports this on its website. Iranian forces have effectively reduced maritime traffic through the strait to a minimum during the war in the Middle East, which began at the end of last month. “An agreement has been reached that will allow Thai oil tankers to transit safely through the Strait of Hormuz,” Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said at a press conference, adding that this development would ease concerns regarding fuel imports. “With this agreement in place, there is greater confidence that disruptions such as those that occurred in early March will not be repeated,” he added. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), over 80% of the crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passing through the Strait of Hormuz is destined for Asia.
