Hungary, EU Commission in talks with government to unlock frozen funds

Budapest, Apr 19 (LaPresse) – On April 17 and 18, a high-level delegation from the European Commission held technical meetings in Budapest with senior representatives of the new Hungarian government. This was reported by the EU executive, specifying that the meetings were organized following contacts between Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and incoming Prime Minister Peter Magyar, as well as a mutual commitment to start work on several urgent issues. It was an initial opportunity to discuss “in a concrete way how to proceed and make real progress in unfreezing EU funds allocated to Hungary, currently frozen due to corruption issues and rule-of-law violations.” “The necessary work will continue,” the statement concluded.
