Ukraine: green light for EU loan to Kyiv and sanctions

Brussels, 23 April (LaPresse) – The green light has been given for a €90 billion EU loan to Kyiv and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The written procedures, launched yesterday at Coreper, to amend the regulation on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) in support of the €90 billion loan for Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia have been successfully concluded. Both documents were adopted unanimously, thus overcoming resistance from Hungary and Slovakia. “The Cypriot Presidency has worked tirelessly to ensure that the EU continues to resolutely support Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said a spokesperson for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU. “Today, the EU Council approved the final element required to enable the disbursement of the €90 billion loan to Ukraine,” said the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus, adding that “disbursements of the loan will begin as soon as possible, providing vital support for Ukraine’s most urgent budgetary needs. The EU remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
