Washington, 26 April (LaPresse/AP) – President Donald Trump was evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which was attended by around 2,300 people. A man fired several shots, injuring an officer, and was subsequently apprehended. Trump reported that the attacker had “many weapons” with him. Also present were First Lady Melania and Vice President JD Vance. The attacker is named Cole Thomas Allen; he is 31 years old and originally from California. The man was subdued by officers and is now in custody: he faces charges of using a firearm during a violent crime and assaulting a federal agent. He was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and knives. According to reports, Allen lives in Torrance, near Los Angeles, and is a part-time teacher as well as a video game developer. A graduate of the California Institute of Technology, he had no previous criminal record. Investigators believe he was staying at the same hotel, a circumstance that would have allowed him to gain entry. Following his arrest, he reportedly stated that he did not intend to target Trump but rather ‘administration officials’.
