Lebanon, Aoun: ‘I will not accept a humiliating agreement with Israel’

Milan, 27 April (LaPresse) – “It is my duty to take responsibility for my decisions and lead my country towards salvation, in accordance with the principles I have upheld, and my aim is to bring an end to the state of war with Israel, along the lines of the ceasefire agreement. But was the truce agreement a humiliation? I will not agree to a humiliating agreement.” This is what Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated before a delegation from Hasbaya and Al-Arqoub, as reported in a post on X from the Lebanese Presidency’s account. “We have informed the American side, which is leading the efforts—something we appreciate—from the very outset that a ceasefire is a necessary first step for any subsequent negotiations, and this is what we reiterated in the two sessions held at ambassadorial level on 14 and 23 April, and it is what was clearly stated in the declaration issued by the US State Department following the first session,” Aoun added, “which we have emphasised and whose third paragraph states that ‘Israel will not conduct any offensive military operations against Lebanese targets, including civilian and military targets and other state targets on Lebanese territory by land, sea and air’”.
