Brussels, 7 May (LaPresse) – “It is important to distinguish between fuel shortages and fuel prices. They are two different things. And airlines are making decisions on ticket price increases and the cancellation of certain routes based on high fuel prices rather than on a shortage of aviation fuel. These are two different things.” This was reiterated by the European Commission’s spokesperson for Energy, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, during the daily press briefing, ahead of the guidelines for airlines on the fuel crisis due to be released tomorrow. The guidelines will cover passenger rights and how airlines can interpret our current regulations. ‘We will not be proposing anything new. We will not be issuing new instructions or anything of the sort. It is essentially a matter of explaining the current legislative framework for the sector in the context of the ongoing situation in the Middle East and its consequences for the energy sector,’ the spokesperson emphasised. ‘The use of Type A aviation fuel will be included in the guidelines,’ she clarified.
