Milan, 14 May (LaPresse) – Everything went according to plan: a solid Jannik Sinner has qualified for the semi-finals of the Italian Open, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament taking place on the clay courts of the Foro Italico in Rome. The Italian, world number one and top seed, easily defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev (No. 14) in two sets, with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in 1 hour and 31 minutes of play. For Sinner, this is his second consecutive semi-final at the Foro; the South Tyrolean has also made history by securing his 32nd consecutive victory in Masters 1000 tournaments, surpassing the streak set by Novak Djokovic in 2011. In the semi-final, Sinner will face the winner of tonight’s final quarter-final between fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 7) and Spaniard Martin Landaluce, who came through the qualifiers.
