Rome, 23 May (LaPresse) – “Thirty-four years ago, in the Capaci massacre, Giovanni Falcone, Francesca Morvillo and the bodyguards Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro and Vito Schifani lost their lives. On that day, the Mafia struck at magistrates and public servants committed to defending the rule of law and the safety of citizens every day. Falcone and his men knew the dangers; they were aware of the risks, yet they chose to stay, to continue fighting against organised crime. Because there are battles that cannot be abandoned.” So said the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi. “Today we renew our commitment to preserving their memory and their legacy. Because remembering is not merely an exercise in style; it means forcefully reaffirming that pact between generations that drives us to continue along the path laid out, guided by the values that inspired them and which each of them always honoured with sacrifice and dedication. The memory of Giovanni Falcone and the victims of the Mafia massacres lives on in the daily choices of those who decide to serve the State with honour and responsibility,” he adds.
