Rome, May 28 (LaPresse) – “Nothing that has been written about furious arguments or shouting matches over defense spending is true. Nor is there any Crosetto-Meloni meeting. There was a meeting between Meloni, Tajani, Salvini, Crosetto, Giorgetti, and Fazzolari with the National Security Advisor and the Military Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office to discuss the NATO summit in Ankara, the June defense ministerial, the E5 leaders’ meeting scheduled for June 2, Ukraine, Hormuz, and also SAFE. It was a calm and substantive meeting, and we are still working on its outcomes.” Defense Minister Guido Crosetto wrote this on X, responding to a tweet by Azione leader Carlo Calenda, in which the latter commented on press rumors suggesting that “there had been a meeting between Minister Guido Crosetto and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to definitively shelve the investments needed to support our defense and honor our international commitments. This is not how a great country acts. Be careful, because if we do not participate in the construction of a European NATO, Germany will go it alone. And that is not a wise choice. The difference between a stateswoman and a politician lies entirely here,” writes Calenda.
