Genoa, May 31 (LaPresse) – Emanuel Iannuzzi, 42, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the death of 2-year-old Beatrice—found dead on February 9—will appear before a judge tomorrow. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for this morning for him and his partner, the child’s mother Emanuela Aiello, who has been in prison since February: both are charged with aggravated child abuse resulting in the child’s death, with the ongoing investigation revealing a pattern of mistreatment, abuse, and violence that had been ongoing for months. Until now, Iannuzzi had been questioned only as a witness; however, in the last few hours, the prosecutor’s office has requested his pretrial detention in light of evidence deemed “extremely serious” and a clear picture for investigators, although the RIS report and the coroner’s full report are still pending. What is emerging, thanks in part to the testimony of the little girl’s two younger sisters heard in a protected setting, is a pattern of repeated mistreatment and violence, neglect, and beatings. And harrowing images, captured in some photos found on the suspect’s phone, showing the little girl covered in bruises, even forced to smoke a cigarette while crying as the adults around her laugh. A hellish reality emerges from the documents, in a context likely marked as well by the cocaine abuse of the adults surrounding the girls.
