Rome, 2 June (LaPresse) – Iker Lecuona returns to MotoGP, three years after his last appearance with Honda in Catalunya. The Spaniard has been chosen by Ducati and Gresini to replace the injured Álex Márquez at Balaton, in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Lecuona is coming off an incredible run of 15 consecutive Superbike podiums, all in second place behind Nicolò Bulega. Among these are the three he secured at Balaton in early May. Not as flashy as Bulega, who wins them all, of course, but Lecuona has also earned himself a chance in MotoGP thanks to this extraordinary performance. That is why he has been rewarded with a one-off appearance in Hungary as Álex Márquez’s replacement, whilst remaining Aruba Racing’s top priority for 2027 in Superbike. Contract renewal talks are ongoing, and whilst waiting for them to be finalised, Lecuona returns, at least for a weekend, to MotoGP.
