Milan, June 6 (LaPresse) – “The anti-gangmastering law should be strengthened, Law 199, not only by allocating more resources and ensuring it is fully implemented, but also by introducing the preventive seizure of companies that employ exploited workers and victims of gangmastering.” This was stated by Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein on the sidelines of a demonstration in Amendolara, in the province of Cosenza, organized by CGIL and Flai CGIL after the tragedy involving farm workers. “We need to strengthen the protection of victims who come forward, with clear pathways, housing solutions, a home, training, legal assistance, as well as healthcare and psychological support,” she added. According to Schlein, “we can no longer talk only about gangmastering; we also need to talk about employer exploitation, because often — we will see what investigations reveal — there are responsibilities behind it, beyond those of the two individuals who have already been arrested and who must face justice. Talking about employer exploitation means also looking at the responsibilities and complicity of companies that employ exploited workers and victims of gangmastering,” she stressed.
