Brussels, 12 June (LaPresse) – At the Ecofin meeting, “I will provide an update on the economic impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and on the progress of the disbursement of the support loan to Ukraine. We are moving quickly on this front and will disburse the funds as early as this month. Furthermore, we will discuss the 21st package of sanctions proposed by the European Commission, because now is the time to step up the pressure on Russia.” This was stated by European Commissioner for the Economy Valdis Dombrovskis on his arrival in Luxembourg. Dombrovskis went on to report that among the other topics to be discussed at the meeting will be the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), on which the Council is due to reach a general approach on the proposal aimed at strengthening it by extending its scope to a wider range of downstream products and introducing new anti-circumvention measures. Furthermore, “we will provide an update on the state of implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility,” says Dombrovskis, noting that “we must now focus on implementation because time is running out and everything must be done by the end of August”.
