Rome, 12 June (LaPresse) – The judge for preliminary investigations in Naples, Mariano Sorrentino, has ordered the suspension from medical practice of heart surgeon Guido Oppido and his colleague Emma Bergonzoni, who were involved in the case of the heart transplant performed on 23 December 2025 on the young Domenico Caliendo, who subsequently died on 21 February at Monaldi Hospital. The two healthcare professionals have been suspended from practising for 12 and 7 months respectively, as part of an investigation into alleged offences of forgery and falsification in conjunction with others, in relation to the compilation of the child’s medical records.
