Oslo (Norway), 15 June (LaPresse) – Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has been sentenced to four years in prison for rape. He was found guilty of two of the four rape charges against him and acquitted of the other two. He was also convicted of assault and abuse within intimate relationships. In addition to the prison sentence, Høiby will have to pay compensation to the victims. The 29-year-old faced a total of 40 charges, including several minor offences such as assault, drug-related offences and breaches of a restraining order. Høiby was not present in court for health reasons and watched the verdict being read via a video link from prison. Prosecutors had asked the Oslo District Court to sentence him to seven years and seven months’ imprisonment, whilst defence lawyers had argued that he should be acquitted of the rape charges and receive no more than 18 months for the offences he had admitted.
