Milan, 16 June (LaPresse) – Russian artist Semyon Skrepetsky has been shot dead in the Polish town of Biała Podlaska, according to local media reports. Skrepetsky, aged 44, was killed in a car park in front of a block of flats in the area. The television station wPolsce24 reported that the attacker shot the artist several times at close range. Paramedics who attended the scene were unable to save him. The station added that two men were believed to be involved, one of whom was arrested near the Belarusian consulate in Biala Podlaska. Unofficial sources have identified the suspect as a Belarusian national. Semyon Skrepetsky (born Robert Kuzovkov), originally from the Altai region, was known for his caricatures of politicians. He had produced satirical portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Three days before he was killed, on Russia Day, Skrepetsky had travelled to Berlin, where he staged a solitary protest featuring an iconic caricature of Joseph Stalin and Putin. Skrepetsky had been living in Poland since 2021.
