Milan, 17 June (LaPresse/PA) – A Canadian federal judge has rejected Ghana’s request to allow Thomas Partey to enter the country for the World Cup opener, whilst the midfielder is awaiting trial on rape charges. The ruling means that Partey, whose visa application was rejected last week, will remain in the United States whilst his team-mates face Panama in Toronto on Wednesday. He will therefore be eligible to play in Ghana’s next two matches, both in the United States. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had criticised the refusal to grant a visa to Partey, who is awaiting trial in the UK, calling it an “arrogant and extremely unfair decision”. The appeal was heard in court on Tuesday.
