Frankfurt (Germany), 17 June (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called on Israel to help de-escalate tensions following the agreement between the US and Iran. “It is important that this conflict ends now, and Israel must not fuel it but play an active role in bringing it to an end. And this opportunity exists,” said Merz in an interview with the German public broadcaster ARD on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian. Following the announcement of the framework agreement between the United States and Iran, the Israeli government stated that it “will not compromise when it comes to protecting our citizens”. Despite the agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to maintain a military presence in the occupied territories in Lebanon. In recent days, there have been further reciprocal attacks between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
