L’Aquila, 22 June (LaPresse) – In the early hours of the morning, at around 5 am, three people were taken into police custody on charges of abduction in connection with the disappearance of the girls from the children’s home in Civitella Alfedena (L’Aquila), Alisya and Sarah, aged 12 and 16, which took place during the night of 6–7 June. The girls were tracked down yesterday evening in Formia (Latina) thanks to a joint operation by the Carabinieri from the provincial command in L’Aquila, the Carabinieri in Latina and special units, coordinated by the Chief Public Prosecutor of Sulmona (L’Aquila), Luciano D’Angelo, who was present during the operation. The measures concerned the girls’ mother, Valentina Dacunto, her partner, Vincenzo Esposito, and Dacunto’s father, Marco Dacunto. During the operation, the Carabinieri and special forces raided the home of an 80-year-old woman, where the girls were found; she was initially described as an aunt. The details of the operation and the family relationships between those involved will be outlined at 11.45 am today during a press conference at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Sulmona by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the judicial police. Within the time limits laid down by law – specifically within 48 hours – the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Sulmona will apply to the judge for the detention to be confirmed; during this period, the suspects will have the opportunity to present their defence.
