Milan, 22 June (LaPresse) – “First and foremost, the primaries were a wonderful opportunity for dialogue and democracy, taking place over two of the hottest days of the year; however, the fact that 10,000 people came to have their say is significant, and that more than 5,000 of them voted for Salvini is a source of pride for me. I am serving as a minister and I intend to continue doing so.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, on the sidelines of his visit to the Montello construction site, commenting on the results of the party’s primaries to select the candidate for mayor of Milan. “It seems that more than 50 people have been put forward,” continued the Lega secretary, “so we are spoilt for choice. We’re not going there to haggle; it’s not as if we’re going to a market. We’re going to put forward the ideas we’ve gathered – the proposals from women and men we’ve collected, not just from the League. Silvia Sardone is undoubtedly a key asset, as are other names put forward by citizens in the primaries: Alessandro Morelli, Verri, Piscina, and also non-League names such as Debbio, Parodi, Spada and Albertini himself. So we are offering the centre-right not just names but also a vision for the city, because these 10,000 Milanese have spoken to us about safety, the cost of living, housing costs, traffic and restricted traffic zones (ZTLs). In short, there is a clear vision of the city we want to see, and we are offering this vision to the centre-right.”
