Rome, 23 June (LaPresse) – “Sentence Antonello Lovato to 22 years.” This was the request made by Luigia Spinelli, Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Latina, in her closing speech at the trial of the 39-year-old agricultural entrepreneur accused of the death of Satnam Singh. The sentencing request, made jointly with her colleague Marina Marra, came at the end of a statement lasting almost two hours before the court. At the start of the hearing, Mr Antinucci, Lovato’s defence lawyer, requested that the passbook into which the sums intended as compensation for the victim’s wife, Soni Soni, and his family members had been paid be admitted as evidence. Subsequently, the defendant himself stated that he wished to continue supporting Soni Soni and Satnam’s relatives. For the prosecution’s representative, Luigia Spinelli, this was “an extremely serious case”, marked by the circumstances of an undocumented worker whose death, she emphasised, “could have been avoided”. The verdict is expected on 7 July, following the defence’s closing arguments.
