London, June 24 (LaPresse) – “As a child I would never have imagined finding myself in this position. Not even playing here at Wimbledon. I come from a small town, it wasn’t realistic to think about this. Now instead I have a trophy with my name engraved next to those of incredible players. It’s truly something special.” So said Jannik Sinner, world number one, in an interview on Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, broadcast by SuperTennis and recorded in London a few days before the start of the 2026 Wimbledon tournament. “When I arrive here I remember the last point from last year. My family there in the stands, my team, my brother: it was wonderful. It’s something I would like to relive, I won’t deny it. But if it doesn’t happen again, I did it once and it will remain in my memory for my whole life.” “In tennis it’s hard to enjoy victories. After four or five days you always have to go back on court. You have to start from scratch, even when you’ve just had an extraordinary tournament and you lose in the semi-finals you leave as a loser. Only one wins,” he added. “I’m doing very well now. After Paris I had several checks and I’m fine. I needed to ‘switch off’ and I really appreciated the days off. I always think everything happens for a reason. And I’m very strong again. I had a longer period to prepare at my best, I feel in good shape. The first matches here in London will always be difficult: I haven’t played on grass for about a year but I can’t wait to do it. Here everything comes down to confidence and I hope to bring here the confidence from last year. Then we’ll see how it goes,” he explained. “After Paris we analysed many aspects carefully, trying to understand if the same thing would have happened if I had played less in the previous weeks. But we don’t have answers. Every day is different, if you do some things the wrong way, on certain days you pay the price. We could have managed some things better. I learned from what happened in Paris and I believe it will make me even stronger for the future,” Sinner concluded.
