Rome, 27 June (LaPresse) – “Forty-six years on, we continue to remember and to demand truth and justice. The tragedy of Ustica is a wound that has never healed, and the pain over those 81 lives cut short remains as keen as ever. But alongside our grief and solidarity with the victims’ families, we also have a duty to ensure justice is done. In practical terms, the investigating judge will have to rule on the request to close the Italian judicial investigation, which it is vital should not be halted. In recent days, the Democratic Party has put forward three specific requests to the Government. Firstly, it is important that the State Attorney General’s Office opposes the closure of the case. Secondly, the Government must use all diplomatic channels to request from Italy’s allies, such as France and the United States, all relevant information regarding what happened in the skies over Ustica. Finally, we must shed full light on the disappearance of the Ministry of Transport’s archives for the years between 1969 and 1984. We are calling for this because this is not just a battle for the families: it is everyone’s responsibility.” So said the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein.
