Milan, 27 June (LaPresse) – A new round of talks between Iran and the United States is to take place in July in Doha, Qatar, and these negotiations will focus on the issue of frozen funds, whilst Pakistan will subsequently host further talks between the US and Iran on the nuclear issue. This is reported by Al-Arabiya, citing its own sources. According to the broadcaster, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is due to visit Iran on 2 July. In recent hours, tensions have escalated between Iran and the United States, the first such escalation since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two sides in Switzerland on 17 June. Washington has accused Tehran of attacking a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting a US response in the form of strikes against various targets. This was followed by an Iranian response: Bahrain, home to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, reported that “numerous Iranian drones” had targeted the country. Iran today condemned Friday’s US attacks on its territory, describing them as a “flagrant violation” of the memorandum of understanding.
